If you are looking to adopt a Papillon from a rescue shelter but are not sure how to go about finding a good papillon rescue shelter then you need to start by understanding a little bit about what dog rescue shelters in general are all about.

The first thing that you need to know is that dog rescue shelters are started and run by people who love dogs. They are committed to seeing that every dog in their care receives not only excellent care, but, love, affection and plenty of attention until they can find a permanent loving home for the animals in their care. In many cases, the people who run these shelters are all volunteers, often spending their own money for expensive vet care, food and other things necessary to keep these animals healthy, happy and well socialized.

As these shelters are usually organized as nonprofit organizations, the adoption fees they charge are small and they may not even entirely cover the expenses with the care an animal receives before getting to a new home. Generally, rescue shelters specialized in some breeds of dogs, like the Papillon breed, are well run and have excellent facilities. Of course that there can be always exceptions, so in order to know for sure that the Papillon rescue and adoption center you want to get your dog from really meets your requirements, it is recommended to visit the facility and talk to the people working there.

You can begin to search for an appropriate rescue group by looking in the local phone book, Yellow Pages or on the internet sites. Simply typing in Papillon rescue shelters and the name of your state will bring up a list of Papillon rescues shelters in your state from which you can find the ones closest to you.

The next step is to then contact one of the shelters, explain you are interested in adopting a Papillon and ask if you might visit the shelter and look around and talk to some of the people there. Generally, the personnel in the shelter will be happy to hear you and will set up a day and a time for you to visit them. If a shelter does not welcome your visit this should send up some red flags.

During your visit at the rescue center, observe the hygiene of the facility and also the way in which the personnel interacts with to the animals in their care. If everything meets with your approval then discuss the application for adoption, the adoption fee and ask what types of information you can expect to be given about the dog of your choice. Most papillon rescue centers will be thrilled at not only your interest in making the visit but, will be impressed with the questions you ask.

Locating a good Papillon rescue shelter is simply a matter of doing a simple search, visiting the shelter to make sure that the pets in their care are treated well and lovingly and asking the right questions. You should know that all those who work in these shelters have dedicated their time and energy to the mission of giving these dogs a chance to restart and finding them good families who will love and care for them in a proper manner.
